West Tennessee native and graduate of the University School of Jackson, obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Mississippi and his law degree from the Nashville School of Law. Following his admission to the Bar in 2000, Mr. Howell practiced with the firm of Hollins, Wagster and Yarbrough, P.C. in Nashville and was a member of both the Nashville Bar Association and the Harry Phillips Inn of Court.
Mr. Howell enjoys membership in the Jackson Rotary Club, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Madison County Bar Association, the Howell Edmund Jackson Inn of Court, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. Mr. Howell and his wife have two children and are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, Tennessee, where he serves as an Elder.
Following the birth of their first child, Mr. Howell and his wife, Lori, returned to Jackson, where he accepted a position with the office of the District Public Defender for the 26th Judicial District of Tennessee. In 2008, the Law Office of Joseph T. Howell was opened. Mr. Howell is a graduate of Leadership Jackson and served on the Board of Directors for Madison County CASA.
Mr. Howell is admitted to practice before all trial courts in Tennessee as well as both the United States District Courts for both the Western and Middle Districts of Tennessee as well as the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and serves on the Criminal Justice Act Panel and as a Magistrate Judge for the Juvenile Court of Madison County.
